TBA This race runs 1,150 mi (1,840 km) across mountains, rivers, tundra, forest, and coast. It starts in Anchorage and ends in Nome, running one of two routes each year, and lasting 10 to 17 days. People from all over the world enter sleds in the race, as well as go to watch and cheer on the mushers. The trail originally was a mail and supply route by dogsled. The Iditarod now commemorates those who travelled this route in Alaska's past.
