Anchorage Highways & Freeways
Stretching 127 mi (204 km), the Seward Highway is noted for its scenic surroundings, including the Turnagain Arm and Chugach Mountains. It connects the city of Anchorage with Seward and is part of the Alaska Route 1 and also known as Route 9 along the first 37 miles (58 km).
This highway, often called one of the most scenic highways in North America, runs from Dawson Creek, BC, through parts of the Yukon, including Whitehorse and Fort Nelson, before reaching its destination in Delta Junction, Alaska.
Part of the Alaska Route 1, the Glenn Highway is a national scenic byway that stretches 328 mi (528 km) from the city of Anchorage to the Alaska Highway at Tok Junction. The highway follows the Matanuska River and visitors traveling along it are treated to mountain peaks on both sides, glacier sightings and ancient forests.
